If you want to buy or sell lights during the festive season or decorate your house for an upcoming Diwali party, Delhi has you covered.
The good news: whether you buy in bulk or just a few pieces to adorn your space, prices are low and there isn’t a major difference between wholesale and retail.
Let’s explore the markets where you can shop for Diwali lights at fair prices.
1. Bhagirath Palace, Chandni Chowk
Located in Chandni Chowk, Bhagirath Palace is the largest electrical-fixture market in Asia.
You’ll find great variety at great prices – lamps, lanterns, fairy lights, LED strings, bulbs – you name it, you’ll find it here.
If you enter Chandni Chowk from the Red Fort side, look for the McDonald’s outlet; right next to it is Bhagirath Palace. A big signboard marks the entry to the market.
Right off the bat, you’ll see small makeshift shops and roadside vendors. Besides these, there are plenty of proper shops selling all kinds of lights.
Street shops stock decorative lights, electrical equipment, lampshades, and special lights introduced for the Diwali season.
The larger stores usually sell light fixtures that aren’t very festival-specific and are available year-round; during the festive season, they also carry more decorative lights and lamps.
Prices: Diwali lights start around ₹13 and go up to ₹250, depending on the type and length. Regular rice lights are the cheapest; LED options are priced higher, and rope lights are the most expensive.
You’ll also find LED diyas, wall hangings, and other fancy lights starting around ₹70 and going up to ₹750. Wholesale prices are typically 10-20% lower than retail.
