The good news: whether you buy in bulk or just a few pieces to adorn your space, prices are low and there isn’t a major difference between wholesale and retail. Bhagirath Palace, Chandni Chowk Located in Chandni Chowk, Bhagirath Palace is the largest electrical-fixture market in Asia. You’ll find great variety at great prices - lamps, lanterns, fairy lights, LED strings, bulbs - you name it, you’ll find it here. If you enter Chandni Chowk from the Red Fort side, look for the McDonald’s outlet; right next to it is Bhagirath Palace. A big signboard marks the entry to the market. Right off the bat, you’ll see small makeshift shops and roadside vendors. Besides these, there are plenty of proper shops selling all kinds of lights. Street shops stock decorative lights, electrical equipment, lampshades, and special lights introduced for the Diwali season. The larger stores usually sell light fixtures that aren’t very festival-specific and are available year-round; during the festive season, they also carry more decorative lights and lamps. Laxmi Nagar Market Located in East Delhi, Laxmi Nagar Market is a bustling area where you can find everything from home décor to fashion. It really comes alive during the festive season, with small stalls selling lights and fancy diyas. As you enter the main market (bazaar) at some distance from the metro station, you’ll see rows of stalls selling lights, paper lanterns, and similar décor. Deeper inside are permanent shops offering light fixtures, fancy chandeliers, lamps, and better-quality Diwali lights. You can also buy in bulk here. Prices: LED lights usually begin around ₹20 and can go up to ₹800, depending on the quality, length, and type. Paper lanterns start near ₹50, with prices increasing by size and design. Nearest metro station: Laxmi Nagar (Blue Line) Days & hours: Open all days, roughly 10:30 am-9 pm. Shopping tips: Vendors expect bargaining, so don’t hesitate. Avoid travelling by car; use the metro for convenience. Keep your personal belongings safe. 4. Gaffar Market, Karol Bagh Situated in Karol Bagh, Gaffar Market is a popular hub for lights and electronics. During the festive season, it comes alive. Shops are decked up and extra stalls pop up selling lights and Diwali décor. Enter via Ajmal Khan Road. As soon as you step in, you’ll spot rows of roadside stalls, much like other Delhi markets. There are plenty of permanent shops too. You’ll find neon signs, string lights, and lanterns in many stores, and several knick-knack and mobile-accessories shops also stock Diwali lights in season. Prices: LED lights start as low as ₹30 and can go up to about ₹300 for 100 metres. Fancy bulbs, rope lights, and “magic poles” are typically priced between ₹150-₹700.
